I am 51 years old and teaching has been my only job in the UK since spending 6 years after graduating working abroad in the travel industry. My pupils tell me that my main asset is my patience and sense of humor (both vital qualities for successful teaching and learning!)
I am sports mad, watching not playing any more, and have a sports crazy family. I have learnt over the years that the more relevant you can make yourself to “real” kids’ issues then the more you can engage and interest, effectively selling your subject and passion for it.
I started teaching in 1992 as a teacher of French and Spanish. I became Head of Department back in 2002 and have taught both subjects to AS/A2 level, although not that recently (2005). I have also taught KS3 Maths and English and was in charge of U14 Football and Cricket teams. I have been a year 10/11 form tutor for all but my 1st year at school. I have most recently enjoyed preparing pupils for the 11+ examination for entrance to all Wirral Grammar schools and have a very high pass rate since beginning in 2008. Since leaving the teaching profession in 2009 I have concentrated my time in establishing a successful tuition base with the help of our website, Wirral Tutors, dealing mainly with preparation for the 11+. Word of mouth is vital and a very high percentage of new pupils come from recommendations from former parents.
